Roy Lynn Scott was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas.  Upon graduation from high school, Mr. Scott was drafted into the United States Army and served his country in Korea.  After his service, he enrolled in Texas Tech University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education.  From there he worked for Southland Corporation, running 7-11 stores across Texas, and Missouri.  In 1981 Mr. Scott decided to enroll in the Texas Tech University School of Law.  He completed his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1984.  His first job was for the City of Midland as a prosecutor.  He later opened a private practice office in Crane, Texas, and was then subsequently elected to serve as the County Attorney in Upton County, an office he held for 13 years.  He also maintained a family law practice while practicing as the County Attorney.

After his time in public service, Mr. Scott opened a private practice in Midland, Texas. He began handling criminal defense, as well as family law cases, bringing his own unique brand of expertise and communication to each of his clients. He has been involved in multiple complex family law cases, as well as many serious criminal matters, a number of which were ultimately resolved in a jury trial.

Mr. Scott has also filed appeals in criminal and family cases. He has had several victories in both areas. Mr. Scott represented a grandfather accused of negligence with his grandchildren. A jury convicted the grandfather, however that conviction was overturned by the Court of Appeals as a result of an appeal filed by Mr. Scott on behalf of the client. Mr. Scott has also had writs granted in family matters. Another time, Mr. Scott filed a Bill of Review on behalf of a client who was incarcerated and ordered to pay child support, which he was unable to pay due to his incarceration. The client was unaware of the order until the arrearage had accumulated to many thousands of dollars. The client’s family hired Mr. Scott, who investigated the case, discovered an issue with service, filed a Bill of Review and successfully overturned the order for child support, removing all child support obligation.

Mr. Scott was motivated to go to law school and become an attorney to help people through difficult situations and offer advice, a mantra he has continued to live by in his dealing with the thousands of people whose lives he has touched through the practice of law.
